26th April Quote of the Week
Do not forget small kindnesses and do not remember small faults.
It may be tempting to forget the good things that others do for us, while holding grudges about things they have done which we are upset about.
This Chinese proverb tells us to do things the other way around.
Research shows that if we are quick to forgive people’s faults and alert to spotting their good points we will be happier, have a better sense of wellbeing and relate more positively to others.
19th April Quote of the Week
A real decision is measured by the fact that you've taken a new action. If there's no action, you haven't truly decided.
This quote comes from the self help expert Anthony Robbins.
Whilst deciding what we want from life and setting goals is absolutely essential to success, it is not enough on its own.
We need to back our decisions by taking the actions required to bring about the changes in our life that we desire.
Even if we are not sure what the best course of action is, we should still do something. Our actions will either move us towards our goals or they will teach us valuable lessons about what works and what doesn't so that we can learn and take more effective actions next time.
12th April Quote of the Week
Happiness resides not in possessions and not in gold; the feeling of happiness dwells in the soul.
This quote comes from the Greek philosopher Democritus, who is considered by some to be the founder of modern science.
Indeed, science would appear to back up this statement. Psychological research shows that, above a basic level, there is almost no relationship between money and happiness.
The key to happiness is not in the accumulation of wealth and possessions, but in living in a way that is meaningful and consistent with our values.
5th April Quote of the Week
Without courage, wisdom bears no fruit.
This quote comes from the great 17th Century priest and writer Baltasar Gracian.
Many of the changes that we wish to bring about in our lives will take courage to implement.
Moving out of our comfort zone can be a difficult thing to do. Even though we may know what it is right and what we want to achieve, it can be difficult to find the courage to do it.
Courage is not about being fearless, but about proceeding in the face of fear. Even though it may go against our instincts, it is vital that we learn to accept fear as part of the process of change.
It is when we move beyond our comfort zone that the most meaningful, positive and important changes in our lives occur.
